Angelina Jolie is a serious and very famous actress who has a serious love for tattoos. Angelina has been featured regularly on celebrity websites and in celebrity news magazines whenever she gets a new tattoo. She has a dozen, at least, in various locations all over her body and she also has quite extensive experience with tattoo removal. Each one of her tattoos has a special meaning to her.
The girl is the Queen of Tattoos and she has, at last count, a dozen. The critics are quick to point out that Angelina has broken the foremost cardinal rules of tattooing by having the name of her former husband tattooed in a prominent location on her upper arm, and then had to undergo a tedious and painful laser tattoo removal treatment after they divorced.
The tattoos that she sports can also be somewhat of a challenge for movie makeup artists to hide when she is filming a movie. However, they are a fascinating and creative expression of her personal and individual philosophy. Some examples of her tattoos include a saying in Arabic that means “determination” or “will”, and the phrase “know your rights” in gothic letters across the top of her back. She also has a Buddhist Pali incantation tattooed on her left shoulder blade written in Khmer script, which is the language of Cambodia. She had it put there to protect her adopted son and herself from bad luck.
She has an Arabic script tattoo on her right arm translates into “Determination”. The tattoo was designed to cover up the tattoo she had done with her ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton. It is often misinterpreted as “Strength of Will”. She also has a tattoo on her left underarm that reads the Roman number 13. She had put there because she is not superstitious.
She later she had the Roman numerals V MCMXL added to the tattoo. 13 May 1940 is the date that Winston Churchill gave a famous speech, during which he stated: “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat’.
She has a tattoo of a cross which covers a little dragon with the blue tongue she had done in Amsterdam. Next to it is a phrase in Latin which translates into “What nourishes me destroys me.” She had the tattoo of the cross done on the day before she was married to Johnny Lee Miller in 1995. In her own words: ‘It was all symbolic, and it was a good thing, nothing dark”.
Angelina has a rune style tattoo depicting the letter h. Depending on who you ask, it is either to remind her of her James Haves, her brother or Timothy Hutton, her ex-boyfriend.
She also has the coordinates of the geographical locations where her children were born. The coordinates tattoo covers the place where the dragon tattoo and name of her ex husband Billy Bob used to be before they were removed with a laser. Some of the dragon can still be seen.
Another of Angelina’s tattoos is an 8” wide, 12” long tattoo of a Bengal tiger which is located on her lower back. She got this tat to celebrate receiving her Cambodian citizenship. The tattoo was done in the traditional Thai style with a manual needle. The tiger’s tail covers her blue window tattoo. She also wants to have another tattoo done in Thailand.
