I think you're being a bit old-fashioned and definitely a bit biased...I personally think its fine, it is your body after all, but i personally prefer tasteful and minimalistic or artistic single pieces to all-out random chaos. As for what your boss thinks of them is another story, in some ways it represents what the customer sees or it could just be like a work dress-code...I'd be concerned about working at that place if I were that girl though. I'm getting two tatoos, one; an acronym and name of one of my favorite bands, will always visible, the other which will be less friendly to look at; a heart shape wrapped with barbed-wire, a sword going through it with a bit of blood dripping off it, and a banner saying "Forsaken" going across it, most likely won't show. The acronym will be on the back of my neck and the heart will be on my right shoulder. If it is something that they will be happy with 5, 10, 20, or even more years down the road then why try stopping them. I've been considering mine for quite a while, and i more or less just need to save up and find a good place and artist to get it down at (which is more of a problem at the moment since tatooing hasn't been legal in this state for a full year yet, but i know I can find good places in nearby states)

I think girls wearing tattoos look bloody stupid, personaly. It really is bad enough when they drill holes in their ears to hang jewellery onto themselves. There really is less than nothing attractive about tattoos. Cleopatra had a messenger put to the sword when she was given a gift of jewellery which required her body to be pierced. She found it offensive that anyone would consider her more attractive with bits of jewellery hanging from her than she was without. What will happen to tattooed people when they grow up and realise just what prats they were?

Anyone who has gotten a visible tattoo has made a choice. It's not something to take lightly, and I hope they REALLY seriously considered all aspects of having visible ink. If your employer asks you to cover it up, that's how it's gonna be, or you're no longer going to have a job. It's not like a birthmark or something beyond your control.

Before I got my forearm tattoos I thought long and hard about it. I figure that if I'm going for a job that's going to really care whether or not I have visible tattoos, I'm most likely going to be wearing a button down and a tie anyway. Look at the traditional Japanese body suits. A lot professional business men (and women I suppose) have them and you'd never know it.

In business appearance is key for many roles so it's natural that something as personal as a tattoo would give a certain impression of that person on an employer. After all, that's what a tattoo is about isn't it?

I have also seen candidates lose out on interviews because of their body jewellery and hair styles.

Once you've got the job fine, but at interview stage keep it strictly professional.
If you can cover up, do so and if you can't... well you'd better be bloody good at the job :)
