Most people who choose a name tattoo usually do so to honour someone special in their life, or to show their love for someone. Most people will have the name of a child or partner or another relative. One of the most popular designs is a heart with the name of their loved one in it. Some have tattoos of their own name or nickname in a decorative way, or something like “daddy’s girl”.

There is a vast range of different designs and ideas for such a simple tattoo. Some people have the name in calligraphy or written in a different language. For instance you could have Mom or Dad written in Chinese Symbols or Japanese Kanji. Some like the name in Arabic or Hebrew because getting your tattoo in a different language is considered more prudent because the meaning is not immediate. If you decide to have your tattoo in a different language it is wise to take someone along that knows the language – it’s not unknown for mischievous tattoo artists to inscribe naughty words!
Once you have made the decision to have the name in a tattoo you then need to think of the design. One popular design is to have the name as part of a vine. This looks elegant and the name doesn’t stand out and this way if it is the name of your partner and you separate it is easier to turn the name into the vine!

Another way of having your family or a loved one’s name in ink is to just use the initials of the first, middle and last name.

Banner style tattoos are always a good design when having a name in ink and you can embellish them with another design. You can also use different lettering styles.
