My name is Art Foust and I own diabolical ink in Moriarty NM where I specialize in custom tattoo work. because this is a small community im in I find myself doing vast array of various designs. I have been tattooing professionally for 4 years and have been a professional artist for about 17 years with an associates degree in advertising art and Illustration. The main point I would like to make on this artical is that so many of my clientel ask the same question. How bad does it hurt. The fact is it all hurts. there is a since of earning a tattoo that goes beyond the fact that you have to pay for it. the level of pain associated with getting a tattoo is minor. a child could tolerate this level of pain. the big question is, "how long can you tolerate it?" the size of the tattoo and the detail is what determines the length of time. and it is true that diffrent parts of your body will have nerves collected diffrently than in other parts. what i have come to discover is more or less painfull areas seem to be directly related to gender. Men feel a greater since of pain in the same areas, wheras women have similar more painful areas in other parts of their bodys. now using the picture for this article as an example; moving upwards from the genital hairline to waistline (ie.or the bottom of the belly) women dont seem to have many issues with this area regardless of age, build, or wight. Once i exceed past the waist onto the belly is where the hurt seems to begin. as a result alot of women will opt to bring the tattoo horizontally along the waistline or just simply cut off at the waistline. which can also be a good thing for longevity of the tattoo if any such women is thinking about children in the future. the pelvis seems to suffer fewer strech marks as a result of pregnancy than the stomach. Which would thereby alter the tattoo(note: never get a tattoo if you are pregnant or could possably be pregnant. its not worth the risk) In my personal opinion, pain is temporary, tattoos are forever. if you really want a tattoo with a specific placement do not alter what you want for the sake of saving yourself some temporary pain. you will regret it. get what you want. You will be happy you did. And screw the pain!!!!
