Surprising Celebrity Ink

Everyone knows the usual suspects when it comes to well known celebrity tattoos.  Angelina Jolie is covered in them, the late Amy Winehouse looked like a human colouring book and Kelly Osborne was a given to get inked well before her 18^th birthday.  Nobody blinks an eyelid when they show up on the red carpet with a new design, but there are some celebrities who reveal their tattoos to the world and you think “Huh.  Really?”  People who you just wouldn’t expect to have gone under the needle, and yet here there are, inked up to the nines.

It wasn’t until we were watching Buried (and hiding behind a pillow, that film is frightening) that we realised leading man Ryan Reynolds had a tattoo on his wrist.  Either they’ve been covering it up for years or we’ve only just opened our eyes, but either way it was a bit of a surprise.

Jude Law was another shock when a picture showed up of a cluster of ants on his forearm (really Jude? Ants?) and some Beatles lyrics for now ex wife Sadie Frost.  Oops.  Next time just tell her in person how much you love her, it’s safer.

Tattoos when you’re a model are a big no no, but so are a lot of other things and that doesn’t seem to stop them, so maybe we should have been less surprised to learn that Kate Moss has not one but four tattoos.  The leggy, blonde waif has a small anchor on her right wrist, a crown on her shoulder (we’re not sure why – pretty sure she’s not the queen of anything) a heart on the back of her left hand and a pair of swallows on her lower back.  Fair play Kate, but if you think we’re bowing down to you you’ve got another thing coming, alright?  Also, the swallow is a popular choice of prison tattoo.  Just saying.

We suspect we weren’t the only ones who drooled over Tom Hardy in Inception, boy that man can wear a suit – but we weren’t expecting him to have secret tattoos under there.  Maybe it was his dapper character that threw us off – who knew he’d have a tattoo of a union jack on his chest.  How, er, patriotic, Tom?

Remember how edgy and fierce Jessica Alba was that one time?  No, neither do we.  It would seem we misjudged her though as the girl who looks like butter wouldn’t melt actually has four tattoos, albeit discreet ones.  I guess if they were any more prominent it would harm her chances of getting the lead role in Pretty Princess Horses Oh Look A Boy!  The Sequel.  (Okay that might be unfair but if you can name five films she’s been in without cheating we’ll eat our hat.  That girl is forgettable.)

We were a little taken aback to hear pop starlet Mandy More got a tattoo, but when it was revealed, eh.  Not so much.  The singer got the tiniest red heart on her second toe and doesn’t plan to get any more – we would have been more shocked if she’d come out with something non girly or safe I guess.  You dodged a bullet there, Mandy!  Phew!
