Mike Tyson and his Tattoos

Mike Tyson is probably one of the most controversial heavyweight boxers in the world, as well as one of the greatest. His power and aggression earned him the WBA, WBC and the IBF titles making him the youngest boxer ever to win these titles.

He is also very well known for his tattoos, especially the tribal tattoo on the left side of his face. The tattoo stretches from his temple to his cheek. The design is inked in black and is inked over his eye and down on to his cheek and under the same eye. He has said that the design is not even half finished and it affirms his fighting spirit as with the Maori warriors.

He also has designs on his left arm including the tattoo of his second wife Monica Turner. On this arm he also has the face of tennis great Arthur Ashe, the tennis star of the 60′s and 70′s and an Afro-American pioneer. It is appended with the words “Days of Grace”. On his right arm he has a portrait of the Chinese revolutionary leader “Mao Tse-tung”. the world’s most prominent Chinese communist during the 20th century. He also has a large dragon on his right forearm. He sees these designs as powerful totems. He has the tattoo of the Argentine guerrilla leader Che Guevara who teamed up with Fidel Castro in 1959 to force the revolution in Cuba. The tattoo is located on the left side of his abdomen.

Mike Tyson was born 30 June 1966 in Brooklyn, New York and he is best known as Iron Mike. In his career he has not only made a name for himself in boxing but is also one of the most famous wearer of tattoos.

He has had more than a colourful life in and out of the ring. He was convicted of rape in 1992 and spent three years in prison. I n his comeback fight in 1997 he bit of a chunk of Evander Holyfield’s ear in the middle of the fight. He was then jailed again in 1999 for assault. In a press conference in 2002 to announce the up and coming bout against Lenox Lewis, Tyson bit his leg. Lennox went on to knock Tyson out in the fight in June 2002.
