Old Poker Face herself is famous for outlandish outfits and crazy fashion sense but she is also a fan of tats and has numerous designs, although some maybe temporary tats. The most well known one is the black peace symbol on Gagas left wrist. She maintains that the ink is a memorial to John Lennon, of whom she is a massive fan. Her younger days were spent close to the Imagine memorial and she believes wholeheartedly in the message of Lennon’s famous mantra, “Give Peace a Chance”.
The second tattoo is a Hawaiian flower delicately inked on her left shoulder blade and the third is a mix of black and white roses on her side and back – courtesy of L. A. Ink’s Kat Von D. In Seoul, Korea she started to show off a left arm tat which is thought to be a direct quote from Rainer Maria Rilke, her favourite philosopher, and it is said to translate to;
‘In the deepest hour of the night, confess to yourself that you would die if you were forbidden to write. And look deep into your heart where it spreads its roots, the answer, and ask yourself, must I write?’
More recently Gaga has paid homage to fans by adding her phrase for them – “Little Monsters” to the Rilke ink.
Another recent addition is a heart surrounded by a ribbon with the word “Dad” contained within. This was added after her father underwent heart surgery recently and she wanted to express her deep love for him.
The collection will surely be added to in coming months and years. She was interviewed on the radio during a tour of Oz and was asked about her desire for more tats. She answered that she would like to get a picture of the Virgin Mary inked on her back, which would complement the existing flower design.
